If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be? Well, Ava DuVernay finally has an answer.
Whether or not the Selma director ever seriously pondered the question, Ben & Jerry’s has sorted her out by creating a brand new flavor in her honor. Entitled Lights! Caramel! Action!, the frozen treat will permanently join the fam in both dairy and non-dairy versions.
While it is undoubtedly cool (ahem) to have an ice cream flavor made especially for you, Ben & Jerry’s gesture extends further. Proceeds from the pint (which DuVernay helped to create) will go towards the filmmaker’s non-profit organization, ARRAY Alliance, which aims to produce and distribute work made by women and people of color.
“Ice cream is a simple joy of life. A comfort food that I’ve turned to on many days,” stated the Oscar nominee. “Partnering with Ben & Jerry’s, a company that I’ve long admired for their commitment to social justice, has been a thrill ride. I had the opportunity to work with food scientists to create a flavor with all the ingredients that I personally love for a cause close to my heart.”
Lights! Caramel! Action! features a vanilla base, salted caramel swirls, graham cracker swirls, and chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough. It will be available nationwide from January.
