We’ve always wanted to travel to Italy to experience the delicious pasta and pizza in the region where it originated. And yet, Italy’s food has much more to it than the usual dishes we immediately think of. In fact, over the past 150 years, the traditional food of Italy has evolved as much as the country has.

Through intense research and effort, Chef Ettore Bocchia, of the restaurant Mistral, in the Lake Como’s Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, has curated a meal showcasing the best of Italy’s cuisine for all to try. Here is what the menu of the multi-course looks like.

Course 1

Our first dish begins with a plate of eel that is filled with a delicate duck foie gras, served with a tomato jam and a sweet, mulled wine sauce. Inspired by the wealthy aristocrats of the 1890s, this first dish definitely sets the mood for the meal.

Course 2

Seafood is the main focus of the second dish and represents the 1920s with raw squid cut into long strips, shrimp, and cuttlefish, all mixed together in a garlic sauce.

Course 3

The Second World War changed the way people splurged on food. Because of this, the third dish features fried frog legs and escargot, as an ode to the “fancy alternative” people could afford to eat in the 1940s.

Course 4

The next dish, inspired by the 1960s and Italy’s economic success during industrialization, is a plate of cooked rabbit in a consommé jelly and green sauce.

Course 5

The sweet pumpkin broth served with white truffle meringue represents the 2000s and the molecular gastronomy introduced in Italy at the time.

Course 6

Finally, modern day brings a deliciously rich lobster tail, served in its own bisque, and is the perfect way to end the meal.

It’s clear that Chef Bocchia put in effort and care to make this meal both accurate and inspiring. Its more than just a meal—it’s an experience. If you’re a foodie with an extra $250 in your pocket to spend on a multiple course meal, this is definitely the one to make a reservation for. This course is available from April 1, 2023, but booking is open now!

The only thing we like better than eating food is watching videos of people making food. With so many food vloggers out there, it’s hard to find people that do things in a unique way. Slawek Kalkraut and Krzysztof Szymanski, two friends who created the account @menwiththepot, have not only exceeded expectations in the creativity of their videos, but stand out from the rest with their mouthwatering meals made in wilderness.

Born in Poland, these men now live in Ireland and have taken to the wild to cook their satisfying meals. Using the elements of nature, they chop their food on wooden cutting boards and cook their food over open fires.

“Over our ten years of friendship, we’ve bonded over a mutual love of braving the elements to create mouthwatering meals,” they write on their website.

They cook everything from breads, steaks, French fries, and sandwiches. Not only does the food itself look amazing, but they film their videos from an amazing up-close-and-personal view of the cutting board, so that viewers can see every herb, onion, and piece of meat they cut, down to the juices flying.

And since their unexpected blossoming on social media, the two men have designed and released their very own knife—in fact it’s the only one they use in their videos. And now, on their website, you can purchase their knife and cookbook with incredible recipes.

Judith walked into her shift on a regular night, expecting to work her normal hours and then go home, until a family of four sat down and ordered only three meals for their family. One of their children was left without anything to eat at all.

Something felt off and Judith decided to keep an eye on the family during their dinner. She soon discovered something that made her look more closely at the family, and she realized that she would need to take matters into her own hands.

If you think you’ve seen food art, think again. Amaury Guichon has completely changed the game with his epic realistic sculptures made from the tastiest medium ever—chocolate. Creating pieces bigger than himself and made 100% out of edible materials, these sculptures will make you believe that anything is possible, even when you’re working with chocolate!

Growing up in Geneva, this French-born pastry chef discovered his love for pastries and the food industry at just 13 years old. He studied and practiced for years, even being moved to his hometown of Cannes, France to run the boutique of the prestigious Maison Lenôtre. It was when he moved to Las Vegas that his career really began to find its direction and take off.

He began to work at the Aria Pattiserie to practice and branch out from what he knew. “Working at this renowned establishment in the world capital of showbusiness, I refined the visual presentations of my desserts,” Guichon told Les vergers Boigon,” but without ever sacrificing the essential principle of taste. I wanted to create a fusion between French Taste and American Showmanship.”

He has found his calling in sculpting, using cake, fillings, and of course, chocolate to create pieces that look so accurate, you might not even know they were edible. His works range from chocolate chandeliers to crocodiles, to foosball tables,

And now at just 29 years old, Guichon has amassed an incredible following of fans, who are eager to see what he creates next. He’s humble—every post shows the entire process of creating the sculpture from start to finish, so if you also wanted to try your hand at sculpting, you could! Or you can apply to his pastry school!

If you thought butter was supposed to just be spread on toast or used in baking, you’re about to have your mind blown. Chef Thomas Straker, born in Herefordshire, England, is showing us all of the possibilities that butter has to offer, with his series that he calls “All Things Butter.”

@thomas_straker Bloody Mary butter – All things butter #fyp #ForYourPage #allthingsbutter #ButterTok #FoodTok ♬ Pass The Dutchie – Musical Youth

Thomas cooks with the mindset that simple is better. His recipes on his website, Instagram, and TikTok are easy to follow and use seasonal ingredients. And while his butter recipes also follow his cooking values, to us, they seem far from simple—they’re extraordinary.

@thomas_straker Burnt chilli and anchovy butter – All things butter #FYP #ForYourPage #TikTokChef #FoodTikTok #CookWithMe #butter ♬ original sound – Thomas Straker

Thomas started his butter series in April of 2022, on his TikTok. Every video starts the same way, with a base of creamy looking butter, to which he adds lots of fresh and interesting ingredients—anything from garlic and lime, to more unique things, like bone marrow, anchovies, and ‘njuda.

@thomas_straker Shrimp butter – All things butter #ForYourPage #FYP #Butter #FoodTok #ButterTok #TikTokKitchen ♬ original sound – Thomas Straker

He throws the ingredients into a bowl and mixes them together with a hand held whisk. Then after a huge fingerfull of butter to taste test, Thomas shows us just what recipe would go great with this newly concocted butter.

@thomas_straker Beetroot butter – All things butter #ForYourPage #FYP #ButterTok #Butter #FoodTok #TikTokCooking ♬ About Damn Time – Lizzo

We can’t stop watching these videos. And while we can’t imagine our butters would look as beautiful as his do, we can’t wait to keep trying new combinations.

If we had to choose the most reliable vegetable, we have to go with the cucumber. Its crisp, refreshing and crunchy texture is the perfect addition to any meal, and this spicy cucumber snack is no exception.

Cut your cucumbers in an accordion style and cover them in a fun Asian-inspired sauce, and enjoy this deliciously spicy and delightful cucumber salad, perfect as a side for any meal.

@thatfoodiejess spicy asian cucumber salad 🥒 #foodie #easyrecipes #cucumber #chillioil #chinesefood #foodtiktok #foryou ♬ 20 cm slowed down – ary 𖧵

Ingredients:

  • 6 mini cucumbers
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced (or more if you’re a garlic girl like us)
  • Black sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (or chili oil)
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Salt

Instructions:

  1. We prefer our cucumbers to be cut in an accordion style. To achieve this, place your cucumber in between two chopsticks. Cut your cucumber vertically until the knife hits the chopsticks. Then, flip your cucumber over, place between the chopsticks, and cut at a diagonal angle. This should result in an accordion-like cut when you pull them apart. Repeat for all of the cucumbers.
  2. Mix together the rest of your ingredients in a separate bowl. Start with these measurements, but feel free to add less or more depending on your preferences.
  3. Pour the sauce over the cucumbers, covering them evenly. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, or even leave them to marinate overnight.

Thomas cooks with the mindset that simple is better. His recipes on his website, Instagram, and TikTok are easy to follow and use seasonal ingredients. And while his butter recipes also follow his cooking values, to us, they seem far from simple—they’re extraordinary.

He throws the ingredients into a bowl and mixes them together with a hand held whisk. Then after a huge fingerfull of butter to taste test, Thomas shows us just what recipe would go great with this newly concocted butter.

@thatfoodiejess spicy asian cucumber salad 🥒 #foodie #easyrecipes #cucumber #chillioil #chinesefood #foodtiktok #foryou ♬ 20 cm slowed down – ary 𖧵
