Taco Bell’s menu is about to get a little more vegan-friendly. With the increase in plant-based alternatives, millions of restaurants have ditched the meat in favor of more sustainable and healthier options that vegetarian and vegan customers can also enjoy. Although Taco Bell is not completely forgoing its steak and ground beef, it is finally adding a long-awaited alternative.

Back in April 2021, the Mexican fast-food chain announced that it would be collaborating with Beyond Meat to introduce “a new innovative plant-based protein to appeal to an even broader audience”. Almost a year and a half later, the new product has been revealed!

“We know that consumers are looking for diverse protein options that are better for the planet without compromising on taste, so we’re incredibly excited to launch our brand-new, innovative Beyond Carne Asada Steak,” said Beyond Meat’s chief innovation officer, Dariush Ajami. “Designed to specifically complement the bold, savory flavors that Taco Bell is known for, Beyond Carne Asada Steak delivers the flavorful, delicious taste and texture of marinated, grilled steak with the added benefits of plant-based meat.“

Made from vital wheat gluten and faba bean protein, the Beyond Carne Asada Steak can be swapped for any regular steak item on the menu. It will be available in select Dayton, Ohio branches from October 13.
