Blenders are one of the most useful and versatile kitchen gadgets, but that doesn’t mean you should put just anything inside. There are certain types of food you shouldn’t toss inside since they won’t be blended properly, and these five fall under that category.

Super-Hot Foods

Pouring hot liquids inside a blender is a disaster waiting to happen. Hot liquids quickly create pressure inside a blender and trapping them this way may even cause the lid to explode.

Super-Frozen Foods

Super-frozen foods, such as ice cubes and frozen fruits, also don’t belong inside a standard blender. Even if they don’t end up destroying your blades, you’ll have to deal with uneven chunks.

Potatoes

Making mashed potatoes in a blender may seem like a brilliant idea, but there’s a catch. Your potatoes will end up releasing too much starch, making it impossible to reach the fluffy texture that you’re aiming for.

Spices

Standards blenders aren’t effective at blending dry ingredients, such as spices, and you should really consider investing in a spice grinder for this purpose.

Dried Fruits

Dried fruits also don’t belong in your standard blender because they might end up sticking to the blades, and the same goes for sun-dried tomatoes.
