Okay, so you’ve just finished a nice large meal! What’s the next item on your agenda? A relaxing nap? How about a steaming cup of tea? We hate to say it, but as wonderful as those things are, you should probably avoid them after a big meal. Here’s why, along with some other things you shouldn’t do after eating.

Eating Fruit

It’s common for many desserts to include some kind of a fruit platter. After all, it’s sweet, it’s healthy, and light enough to be able to snack on after a large meal. Unfortunately, your fruit won’t digest so well if you do this—because your body will still be working on digesting the actual meal.

Drinking Tea

Most people think that tea is the perfect hot drink to consume after a meal, but this is far from the truth. Instead of helping digestion, the acidic nature of the tea leaves is actually hardening the protein in your body, making it harder to digest. Best to wait about an hour.

Sleeping

Your food needs time to digest after you eat it, and unfortunately this process stops when you sleep. So no matter how badly you want to rest after a heavy meal, do your best to wait it out for a bit longer.

Bathing

Bathing is another way to slow down the digestion process. While your in the bathtub, your blood flow focuses on other matters, and doesn’t use its energy to help get your food down.
