3 Ways to Use Honey in Your Kitchen

Honey is a versatile ingredient, being used in both sweet and savory dishes. There is also evidence of its antiseptic qualities, meaning it can be used to create homemade cough and cold medicines. Read on for three ways to use this special natural ingredient in your cooking.

Honey and Pistachio Salad Dressing

Ingredients (to dress 1 salad):

  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of pistachio butter (blitz 1/4 cup of pistachios with 1/4 cup of water if you can’t find this)
  • 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fresh thyme, removed from its stalk
  • 2 tablespoons of walnut oil

Instructions:

  1. Whisk the oil and vinegar together until they emulsify.
  2. Slowly stir in the honey and pistachio butter.
  3. Whisk in the salt and fresh thyme, then use to dress a salad.

Honey, Apple, and Cinnamon Warmer

Ingredients (to serve 4):

  • 2 cups of fresh, cloudy apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  1. Heat the apple juice in a pan.
  2. As it starts steaming, stir in the other ingredients.
  3. Allow the mix to cook for 10 minutes, don’t let it boil.
  4. Strain the liquid into cups and serve.

Honey Pudding

Ingredients (to serve 4):

  • 1 cup of ground almonds
  • 4 tablespoons of honey
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

  1. Heat the coconut oil in a pan.
  2. As it melts, add the ground almonds, honey and salt.
  3. Stir well and allow it to cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Allow the mix to cool, then pour into bowls and serve with a little milk or yogurt.
