3 Unusual Ways to Use Ice Cubes in Your Kitchen

Most people use ice cubes to cool down their drinks, but there’s no reason why you should stop there. Ice cubes are much more functional than people think, and here’s how you can put them to some good use in your kitchen.

Reheating Rice

This may sound like a strange idea, but you should put an ice cube on your rice before placing it in a microwave. It will melt and steam as the rice reheats, giving the grains some much-needed moisture that was lost along the way.

Skimming Fat From Soups

Removing fat from homemade soup or stew can be tricky, but ice cubes can help you with that, as well. Fill a metal ladle with ice cubes, and fat will naturally gravitate towards it as you skim the bottom of the ladle over the soup.

Thickening Salad Dressings

You can also use ice cubes to thicken your salad dressings moments before drizzling them over your greens. Simply place an ice cube inside a salad dressing jar, shake it up so it could harden the oil, and discard it once you’re done.
