We call something “a piece of cake” when we think it’s easy to achieve or make it, but baking an actual cake can be a struggle. Practice makes perfect, but if you want to avoid some common mistakes, just keep reading. There are some tricks that can help you bake a perfect cake every time and here are three of our favorites.

Carefully Read the Recipe

Reading through the recipe before you begin baking is often underestimated. Understand the required oven temperature and if it needs to be achieved in advance, figure out if you have all the ingredients ready, and make sure to follow a specific order of steps as it can make all the difference.

Be Careful When Mixing

It’s easy to undermix or overmix the ingredients, and both situations can ruin your cake. Always remember that the goal of mixing is to combine the ingredients but once you achieve that you should stop.

Let It Cool

Once your cake batter is baked, it’s important to let it cool before continuing, unless the recipe specifies something else. If you try to work with hot cake, it can fall apart or change the texture, which will affect the end result.
