Mimosa salads are one of the festive dishes that became the staple of Russian cuisine before taking the whole world by storm. Usually made with canned fish, mayo, eggs, and cheese, mimosa certainly isn’t your classic healthy salad, and here are a few things you should keep in mind before serving it at your Christmas dinner.

Unhealthy Ingredients

As soon as you look at the list of ingredients used in mimosa, it’s pretty clear that this salad isn’t very healthy. For starters, it features a high amount of mayonnaise and cheese. The use of eggs also doesn’t help its case, and it’s pretty difficult to make it dairy-free and vegan-friendly.

Eating in Moderation

Limiting the number of ingredients that you’re using to make mimosa would defeat its purpose. That’s why you should try to eat it in moderation—after all, it has just as many calories and unhealthy fats as your main course—if not even more.

Adding Veggies

Calling mimosa a salad is pretty ironic since onions and potatoes are usually the only veggies it contains. If you’re looking for a way to put a healthy twist on it, how about adding some other vegetables to the mix? Boiled carrots are the most popular option, but you can also give tomatoes, corn, and peas a shot.
