Bagels are a great breakfast or snack, and luckily they work with lots of different kinds of spreads. They’re also a particularly good meal to serve to kids, as they’re chewy and satisfying and not too messy. If you’ve got bagels around that you want to serve, here are some ideas for spreads that will have your kids chowing down.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

This is perfect for when your kids want something sweet and won’t accept anything less. Peanut butter has healthy fat and lots of protein, especially natural peanut butter. You can sneak these nutrients into your kids’ diet by adding some dark chocolate chips (lower in fat and sugar), or make things sweet by adding banana slices instead.

Strawberry Vanilla Spread

This spread can be made at home using strawberry jam, cream cheese, and vanilla. It’s a little dessert-esque, but the strawberries add vitamin C and fiber while the cream cheese can give a little bit of protein and fill your kid up so they’ll have plenty of energy…and won’t ask for a snack again too quickly.

Peanut Butter Sweet Potato

This unique recipe is easy to make in a food processor using only cooked sweet potato, peanut butter, and cinnamon. Sweet potato and peanut butter are two of kids’ favorite ingredients, and both are fairly nutritious. Plus, the combination of flavors makes for an autumnal spread which is perfect for a pre-Halloween dinner.
