Mushrooms are a staple of many cuisines and they can be combined with a long list of different ingredients, but that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone knows how to cook them. If you’re still new to this process, here are some mistakes you should avoid at all costs.

Wash Them… or Not?

Some people can’t imagine cooking mushrooms before washing them, while others prefer skipping this step and simply removing the dirt instead. If you decide to wash the mushrooms, keep in mind they’ll get waterlogged so it’s important to let them dry properly.

Just Add Oil

You shouldn’t be skimping on oil, butter, or other fats you’re using throughout the cooking process. Mushrooms will soak them up quickly, so it’s a good idea to add them in small doses along the way.

Turn Up the Heat

Low heat will do no favors to your mushrooms, because the water will seep out along the way, and they’ll sauté instead of being properly cooked. Using medium-high or high heat will allow water to evaporate and the final product will be much more delicious this way.
