Whisky Cocktails to Try This Weekend

Whisky is a drink often served neat or on the rocks. While purists may scold you for not drinking the liquor in its natural form, it’s not our fault that it goes so well in cocktails! Here are three whisky cocktails to keep in your repertoire.

New York Sour

A whisky sour is a classic, but this Manhattan spin on the drink elevates it to iconic. Using bourbon and fruity red wine, the cocktail looks like a sunset due to the wine floating on top. To get it perfectly chilled but not diluted, shake the drink with large ice cubes.

Gaelic Punch

Not all cocktails need to be served cold. With winter on its way, this is the perfect alcoholic beverage to warm you up. Young Irish whiskey (notice the additional “e”) works best in this cocktail as they remain smooth even when heated up. Nutmeg, cloves, and citrus peels complete the drink.

Mint Julep

This list would be incomplete without the inclusion of a mint julep. The classic cocktail was considered to be medicinal once upon a time, and has been associated with the Kentucky Derby since 1939. Back in the 1890s, the drink was referred to as “the zenith of man’s pleasure… the very dream of drinks”.
