We all know that omega-3 is essential to a healthy lifestyle. It can improve the functioning of the brain, the immune system, the heart, the eyes, and even bones. But what foods actually contain omega-3? What do we need to eat more of to get these health benefits? Here are some of the most readily available foods that are packed full of omega-3.

Oily Fish

Perhaps the best sources of omega-3 are oily fish such as herring, mackerel, salmon, caviar, sardines, and oysters. You can cook these in delicious creamy sauces and eat with potato and root vegetables. They can be poached or fried, but we think they’re best roasted in the oven with a crispy sheen of skin on top.

Nuts

Surprisingly, nuts are also full of omega-3 fatty acids. If you’re a vegan, nuts could be one of your main sources of omega-3. These nuts include walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, and macadamia nuts.

Seeds

If you’re not into nutsת you can also get good omega-3 from seeds such as flax seeds and chia seeds. You can eat these in tasty salads, smoothies or bake them in the oven.

Soybeans

Soybean oils and soybean products such as tofu also contain omega-3. These can be a good source, although they do also contain omega-6. If taken in too large quantities, omega-6 can cause inflammation.
