Hollywood producers wait until summer to release their blockbusters, so you know we’re going to be at the cinema this season! Part of the movie-going experience is definitely the snacks involved. The concession counter is filled with Milk Duds, M&Ms, and chocolate-covered raisins, but we’re going straight for the popcorn. There is an art to making your popcorn Oscar-worthy—here’s how.

All About the Butter

Butter is a golden elixir straight from the gods, so you can bet the price of your movie ticket that we’re putting it on our kernels. In order to ensure that each piece of popcorn is properly coated, it’s better to add the butter in two goes. Ask the snack bar worker to fill the bucket halfway with popcorn, stop to add butter, add the rest of the popcorn, and finish with a second round of butter.

Get a Bigger Bucket

Unsalted popcorn is just bleh. Over-salted popcorn will have you wanting to remove your own tongue. So how do you strike a balance? Like this: regardless of what size popcorn you order, ask the attendant to give you a bucket one size bigger. This will allow the kernels to move around easily when you shake in the salt. Don’t forget to shake the tub thoroughly!
