This paneer masala is hard to beat when it comes to indulging in the rich and aromatic flavors of Indian cuisine. Paneer, a beloved ingredient in Indian cooking, takes center stage in this mouthwatering dish. Simmered in a luscious tomato-based gravy infused with a blend of aromatic spices, this paneer masala is a true delight for the senses. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces of paneer, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 2 large tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for color)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, about 5-6 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green chilies, and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  2. Add the pureed tomatoes to the skillet, along with the ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, garam masala, and paprika (if using). Cook the mixture for 8-10 minutes, or until the tomatoes are reduced and the oil starts to separate from the masala.
  3. Once the masala is cooked, gently add the cubed paneer to the skillet and stir to coat it evenly with the sauce. Be careful not to break the paneer cubes.
  4. Season the paneer masala with salt to taste, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Garnish the paneer masala with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.
  5. Serve the paneer masala hot with naan, rice, or your favorite Indian bread, and enjoy the irresistible flavors of this classic dish!
