You know the classic cheeses—mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan, gouda—but have you ever tried halloumi cheese? This cheese is so delicious, you’ll be wondering why people don’t talk about it more!

Halloumi cheese originated in Cyprus, but has since spread throughout the Mediterranean region. It was originally made from a combination of sheep and goat milk, but it can sometimes be made with cow’s milk as well.

So, what does it taste like? Well, halloumi cheese is considered to have a squeaky texture, but the flavor is pretty similar to mozzarella cheese. The difference is that it’s much saltier and has a firmer texture. And of course, it kind of squeaks when you chew it!

Something that makes halloumi cheese so unique is the temperature of its melting point. Its abnormally high melting point makes the preparation of halloumi much different from other cheeses. Instead of becoming gooey as you cook it, halloumi holds its structure. This is exactly why people love to fry it! When you fry or grill halloumi cheese, it gets these mouth-watering crispy edges that are just too good.

There are many ways to use halloumi cheese in recipes. You can add it to salads or sandwiches, or even pair it with other grilled vegetables for a salty treat!
