These Foods Don’t Belong in an Air Fryer

Air fryers have become a favorite kitchen appliance for many people, and it isn’t hard to see why. You just put in the food, press a few buttons, and walk away. Once you return, it is perfectly cooked. While an air fryer comes in handy for cooking many different foods, from chicken to veggies, there are definitely some food items that don’t belong there.

Battered and Heavily Marinated Food

Food that is dipped in the batter shouldn’t go anywhere near an air fryer. The wet batter will drip all around and cause a cleanup nightmare, while it can also potentially damage the appliance if it gets into places it shouldn’t. The same goes for heavily-marinated foods like steaks.

Grated Cheese

Making a grilled cheese sandwich in an air fryer can seem like a good idea, but it isn’t if you are using grated cheese. The hot air that cooks the food is quite strong, and it will most likely disperse the cheese all over the place.

Leafy Greens

The air fryer doesn’t offer a welcoming environment for leafy greens. They will cook unevenly and will easily get burnt if you leave them longer inside.

Popcorn

Finally, the temperature inside the air fryer isn’t high enough to pop the popcorn kernels, and you will get a disappointing batch if you use this method. Also, the kernels can get lodged within some of the air fryer components and cause malfunction.
