The Easiest Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe

Tomato sauce is used in so many recipes. It’s also one of the easiest things to make yourself, so next time you come across a recipe that calls for it, you can try creating it from scratch. Along with this simple and satisfying recipe, there are two ideas for using it to give you some inspiration.

Ingredients:

(Serves 2-3)

  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • ½ cup veg stock
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Finely slice the onion and garlic.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pot and add the onion.
  3. Fry on a low heat for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Add the garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper, and fry for another 10 minutes.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and the veg stock.
  6. Increase the heat and leave to simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. 
  7. Remove from the heat and leave to stand for 5 minutes.

Simple Pasta Dish

Cook some pasta and fry some veggies of your choice. Add the veg to the cooked pasta and then stir through the tomato sauce. Serve hot with some parmesan cheese. 

Enchiladas

Roll some corn tortillas up with a filling of your choice. Place them in an oven dish, pour over the tomato sauce, and then sprinkle with cheese. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes.
