Do you love schnitzel but you’re trying to reduce your meat consumption? Or maybe you’re thinking about going vegetarian, but can’t imagine a life without chicken schnitzel? Try this deliciously crispy tofu recipe and we promise you won’t look back.
Ingredients:
- 1 block firm tofu
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- ½ cup schnitzel-flavored breadcrumbs (you can buy it premixed or make your own!)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
- Slice your tofu block into ¼ inch patties.
- Whisk egg and place in a shallow bowl or plate. Combine breadcrumbs and sesame seeds and place in another shallow bowl or plate. Place cornstarch in another separate bowl. This will create a dipping station to make your schnitzels.
- Take one tofu patty and cover with cornstarch. Move the tofu to the next station and coat with egg. Lastly, coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Repeat step 3 for all of the tofu patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet on medium-high heat. When oil is hot, add coated tofu patties and fry until golden brown. Flip and repeat on the other side.
- Remove from heat and serve hot! Enjoy on a sandwich, or with a side of potatoes and veggies!
