The CRISPIEST Tofu Schnitzel Recipe

Do you love schnitzel but you’re trying to reduce your meat consumption? Or maybe you’re thinking about going vegetarian, but can’t imagine a life without chicken schnitzel? Try this deliciously crispy tofu recipe and we promise you won’t look back.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • ½ cup schnitzel-flavored breadcrumbs (you can buy it premixed or make your own!)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Slice your tofu block into ¼ inch patties.
  2. Whisk egg and place in a shallow bowl or plate. Combine breadcrumbs and sesame seeds and place in another shallow bowl or plate. Place cornstarch in another separate bowl. This will create a dipping station to make your schnitzels. 
  3. Take one tofu patty and cover with cornstarch. Move the tofu to the next station and coat with egg. Lastly, coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture. 
  4. Repeat step 3 for all of the tofu patties. 
  5. Heat oil in a skillet on medium-high heat. When oil is hot, add coated tofu patties and fry until golden brown. Flip and repeat on the other side. 
  6. Remove from heat and serve hot! Enjoy on a sandwich, or with a side of potatoes and veggies!
