]]>Biofase is a Mexico-based company that makes biodegradable and sustainable forks, knives, spoons, and straws using leftover avocado pits. The company was founded in 2014, after its founder, chemical engineer Scott Munguía, discovered that avocado pits contain a biopolymer that’s similar to the one found in corn that’s currently used for making bioplastic.
The products are made from 60% avocado biopolymer and 40% synthetic organic ingredients. The company is on a mission to meet the demand for such products that aren’t made from plastic.
“Did you know that plastic straws can take up to 200 years to decompose?” Biofase USA posted on Facebook. “And most ‘alternative’ straws need special facilities to be compostable. Our straws and cutlery degrade naturally in just 240 days and you can even compost them at home! Make the change!”
