When you think of french toast, healthy isn’t a word that comes to mind. The thick slices of bread dipped in egg, fried, and then topped with butter is a breakfast staple and you can make it healthier with these recipes.

Pumpkin French Toast

Pumpkin pie and french toast are two things we love, and you can make healthier french toast by using whole-grain bread, cinnamon, pumpkin puree, nutmeg, eggs, and walnuts. Add an extra boost of protein with cottage cheese on top.

Baked Apple French Toast

Caramelized apples and french toast, yes please! This recipe uses whole-wheat challah, fresh carmalized apples, and brown sugar. Top it off with some walnuts and Greek yogurt for a real treat!

Pear Spiced French Toast

Pears pair just as nicely with french toast as apples do and you can use whole wheat bread, cinnamon, brown sugar, and pears for this recipe. Optional toppings include vanilla yogurt, maple syrup, and orange zest.

Orange French Toast

Citrus works well with french toast as well. Instead of using butter, try using some vanilla ricotta and topping it off with mandarin oranges.
