Fast food items like hamburgers, wraps, and fries all look amazingly attractive when you see them on TV, billboard, or other forms of advertisement. But more often than not, they are rather disappointing when you meet them in person. From the patty being paper thin and sauce being nonexistent to bad assembly, the point is that you are not getting the product that you have been promised.

The previous example is usually seen at big fast-food chains. These establishments have to churn out a significant number of items quickly, which leads to various missteps and sometimes below satisfactory eating experiences. Singapore-based foodie Ben Chia found himself in such situations too many times to count, but that didn’t discourage him from visiting fast foods. Instead, it inspired him to create an insanely popular Instagram account McSegent on which he started documenting the mishaps of the fast-food industry.

The account started gaining followers quickly, with people worldwide contributing their own examples of funny food items that the fast-food chains actually served to their customers. This included hits like American cheese on pancakes instead of breakfast sandwiches, upside-down Big Macs, and sandwiches missing one of the buns.

“That is something we are quite proud of,” said Chia. “I’m glad that this is something that people appreciate. And, you know, sometimes it helps us relax a little bit to not take things too seriously.”

If you are trying to maintain a healthy diet, eating lunch at a fast-food restaurant may not seem like the best idea. However, there are some fast-food chains that may not be as bad as you think. Here are some healthier options when you don’t have time or energy to cook an entire meal.

Chipotle

This Mexican food chain is full of healthy options including a delicious taco salad. The company tries to use only organic, local ingredients. The meat served at Chipotle is hormone and antibiotic-free.

Chick-Fil-A

A chicken sandwich joint may not seem like a nutritious option for lunch, but it’s actually one of the first restaurants in America to offer a menu free of trans fat.

Subway

Subway is best known for its five dollar footlong sub sandwiches, but it also offers fresh salads with grilled chicken and fresh vegetables.

Panera Bread

Bakery-cafe Panera Bread offers its customers lots of choices when it comes to ordering your meal. This can make it easier to go for healthier options, such as choosing an apple with your sandwich instead of potato chips.

For better or for worse, the United States of America is definitely the fast-food capital of the world. Americans popularized this cheap, fast restaurant craze that has now spread to all corners of the globe.

Have you ever been curious about which restaurants are leading the fast-food charge in the United States, a country where the average person spends $1,200 per year at these restaurants? These are the most widespread franchises in the country.

Subway

Subway is the largest fast-food chain in the United States, with over 25,000 locations. This chain, which specializes in sub sandwiches made using easily-prepared ingredients, finds its success in its simple business model which allows for the restaurant to be staffed by few employees.

McDonald’s

You might be surprised to learn that McDonald’s isn’t number one on this list, as it trails behind Subway with about 14,000 franchises. These fast food pioneers are still going strong, however, as their $38 billion annual revenue figure blows all competition away.

Pizza Hut

America’s most widespread pizza joint comes in at #3 on the list, with around 7,500 franchises nationwide. Customers can enjoy this chain’s fresh-baked pizzas by picking them up or eating them at the store, or via its well-known delivery network.
