If your favorite hobbies include drinking beer and watching soccer, your dream job may have just come calling. The FIFA World Cup kicked off on November 20 and an online betting site wants to pay one lucky individual to try 32 beers from around the world.

Each beer is linked to a country that will be competing in this year’s tournament, with the objective being to rank the draughts. So even if the teams don’t perform on the pitch, they can still claim the cup (or is that pint?).

“We want to celebrate this incredible tournament by giving one of you the opportunity to rate each country on a different skill: brewing!”, says BonusFinder who is running the contest. “Think international craft beers: lagers, hazy pales, IPAs and more!”

The requirements of the job are fairly easy (and much simpler than actual soccer). The chosen individual will be sent 32 beers which they must taste and rank, along with making notes. They will also receive $500 and a new television!

As the World Cup is a global tournament, applicants can be from the US, UK, or Canada, with prospective candidates urged to identify what makes them the ideal person for the position.

Beer is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in the world today, and it’s only getting more popular. A few decades ago, there were a solid amount of beer choices you could find in the store, but it’s not even close to the amount of variety they have today. It’s truly astonishing when you walk into a beer store or brewery and see all the various flavors—to the point where it can be hard to know which beer brand to choose. Here are three beer brands that you truly can’t go wrong with.

Modelo

Modelo has been around for quite some time, but its level of popularity has grown tremendously in recent years. Offering beers in both light and dark qualities, it’s the kind of beer you can’t go wrong with at a Sunday barbecue.

Brooklyn Brewery

Brooklyn Brewery isn’t quite mainstream, but it’s certainly been making its rounds. Offering a bevy of different flavors, this brewery truly holds its own against some of the biggest beer-making companies in the entire world.

Corona

Corona is one of the most popular beers in the world, and for good reason. You really can’t go wrong with an ice cold glass bottle of Corona, whether you’re watching a football game, lounging by the beach, or just hanging around the house.

Beer just got a little creepier ahead of Halloween. Elysian Brewing in Seattle has created a special pumpkin beer inspired by one of Hollywood’s most frightening characters—Chucky.

The evil talking doll first appeared in the 1988 movie Child’s Play and has starred in eight more films since. The knife-wielding toy found his way to television last year as part of the Syfy and USA Network series Chucky. Brad Dourif once again reprises his role as the titular character who commits a series of murders in a small New Jersey city.

With season two of the show set to premiere in October, Elysian has brewed a wheat-based pumpkin beer called Chucky: A Killer Wit Beer. The beverage also contains cranberry juice and has been described as “light in color with spine-chilling flavors of chamomile and cinnamon—the perfect combination of everything you love about the season.”

“Chucky is one of Halloween’s most iconic, beloved characters, and we have found the perfect partner in Elysian Brewing to capture his spirit this season,” stated Ellen Stone, executive vice president for entertainment consumer engagement and brand strategy at the networks’ parent company NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “This custom pumpkin beer provides a fresh, unique way for fans and beer fanatics alike to quench their thirst with a taste of Chucky ahead of the season two premiere.”

Have no fear of using alcohol in your cooking: since heat causes alcohol content itself to evaporate, it’s a perfect way to add flavor. Wine is more commonly used as a flavor additive, yet this marinade using beer hits all the right notes. This recipe specifically uses chicken meat, but the marinade suits chicken, fish, or beef.

Ingredients:

  • 8 pieces of chicken, light or dark meat
  • 1 onion
  • Approximately 4-5 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced parsley
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • ⅔ cup of beer or apple cider

Directions:

Finely mince parsley and garlic before combining in a small mixing bowl. Pour the beer in the mixing bowl, alongside salt, pepper, cayenne, paprika, and optionally, a grilled chicken seasoning. Mix the whole marinade until combined. Coat each piece of chicken with some olive oil before placing them in a gallon-sized plastic bag. Pour the marinade into the bag until it’s evenly spread amongst the chicken pieces, and marinate for at least 6 hours.

Once you’re ready to cook, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, 175 degrees Celsius. While the oven heats, chop an onion lengthwise and add it to a heated pan greased with olive oil. Caramelize the onions for approximately 10 minutes. Place the contents of the plastic bag into a baking tray, and lay the caramelized onions on top of the chicken pieces. Let the dish cook for 35-40 minutes for chicken with bones, and 20-30 minutes if boneless. Before the last 10 minutes of cooking time, make sure to take out the dish and pour the chicken’s juices over the top of each piece with a spoon before putting it back in the oven. Serve hot alongside potatoes or rice, and enjoy.

Drinking beer on its own is all fun and games, but the real magic starts when you use it as a cooking ingredient. This beloved beverage can be added to all sorts of different dishes, and picking the right type will determine how delicious they’ll taste.

Wheat Beers

Wheat beers will do wonders for your lighter dishes, and they’re best used when you prepare chicken or seafood.

Ales, Porters, and Stouts

Ales, porters, and stouts are all extremely versatile in their own right, and there’s a reason why we’re putting them all in the same bracket. They can bring the best out of your pork, beef, and lamb. They can also be used as a replacement for stock or wine in your soups and stews.

Fruit-Flavored Beers

Fruit-flavored beers experienced a huge boom in the past few years and drinking them on their own isn’t the only way to consume them. You can also use them in many kinds of desserts unless the recipe specifically calls for a different kind of beer.

Pale Ales

If you’re a total newbie to cooking with beer and don’t want to complicate things too much, the pale ale is the safest choice thanks to its hoppy and rich flavor.

Beer is the most popular and most widely consumed alcoholic drink in the world, and yet there are still so many myths about this beloved beverage. Every beer lover should know at least a few basic facts about this drink, so here are some common beer myths that need to be busted.

Dark Beers Are Stronger

One of the most common misconceptions about beer is that the color of this beverage is related to its strength. This is simply not true, and there are many dark beers that are only around 4% ABV.

Beer is Best Served Cold

Drinking cold beer on hot summer days is very refreshing. However, the truth is that you’ll hardly be able to enjoy the flavor and aroma of your beer if it’s too cold—and that would be a shame if you like drinking craft beers.

Beer Will Give You A Beer Belly

Beer has a bad reputation because it’s high in calories and it can, in fact, increase belly fat. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other alcoholic drinks that are also high in calories, such as cocktails or wine, and consuming too much of these drinks can also lead to weight gain.

December is coming up soon, and if you have a beer lover in your life—there’s a present you should be considering this holiday season.

Homebrewing beer has become all the rage recently, as tools and ingredients necessary for making suds from the comfort of your own home have started to become more widely available for personal use.

One of the best ways to start with this exciting tradition is to get a homebrewing kit—a new tool companies have begun to put on the market that gives you everything you need to make beer at home.

Brewing beer is a process that requires yeast, hops, and grain along with water to begin the process of fermentation and the elaboration of a delicious beer. You’ll get all of these things—along with a fermentation tank that allows for this process to happen—when buying a kit.

There are kits with ingredients for all kinds of beers—from Belgian ales to IPAs—meaning you can choose one which best fits the tastes of your loved one.

So, be sure to keep a homebrewing kit in mind this holiday season when thinking about what to buy your beer-loving loved ones!
