Pizza lovers often say that even a bad pizza can make a good dish. But we guess even they would have to think twice before deciding to try the newest TikTok trend that is sushi pizza. Fortunately, sushi pizza doesn’t exactly live up to its name. This isn’t baked pizza dough topped with raw salmon or raw tuna and sprinkled with rice and seaweed. Instead, it is pretty much regular sushi made in the shape of a pizza.
Sushi pizza first took over TikTok in late 2020 when user Veronica Vu shared a video showing her making this unusual dish. The clip sees Vu frying a circular rice base and putting various ingredients on top, including shredded crab, avocado mas, and tuna slices coated in a mix of mayonnaise and sauce.

The clip quickly caught the attention of other TikTok users who decided to try sushi pizza for themselves while following Vu’s recipe.

Others got creative and made their own version of the dish. User yaraschmees made a base from seaweed covered with rice and then lined raw fish, avocado, and cucumbers on top.

The trend doesn’t seem it will die out soon, as new videos dedicated to sushi pizza are still being uploaded to TikTok while the clips with #sushipizza currently have more than 18 million views combined. So maybe it’s worth trying it after all?
