There are numerous dishes that can be enjoyed to the fullest on their own, without external supplements enhancing the experience. Fries can be enjoyed without ketchup. Carrot sticks can be enjoyed with dip. Soup is delicious without salt. The list goes on and on. One of these such examples is also sushi—which certainly doesn’t need to be drained with sauces.

Let’s Take a Step Back

Okay, we’re not saying that we’re against external supplements completely. We love ketchup, BBQ sauce, you name it. But there comes to be a point where a person must take a step back and reevaluate how often they use these extra additions, and decide whether or not they’re doing it too much.

Sushi is Delicious on its Own

This brings us to sushi. If you go to an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant, they’ll scold you if you ask for spicy mayo and sweet sauce. Soy sauce is intended to be eaten with your sushi as well as wasabi, but merely as a supplement. If you’re using too many sauces, are you really enjoying the sushi? Are you really tasting the salmon or spicy tuna?

We’re not saying you should get rid of sauces completely—but certainly to reevaluate whether or not you’re using too much of it.
