When it comes to being a chef, there are a lot of different skills a person must have. They must obviously know the fundamentals of culinary practices, and that must be paired with heaps of real-world kitchen experience. However, there’s another thing that a chef must have in order to set themself apart. They must be bold, and here’s what we mean by that.

Feedback vs. Vision

When it comes to all forms of art, there tends to be a tense, yet very important, struggle. It’s the struggle of feedback versus vision. Since the customer is always right, seeking feedback is crucial for every artist to grow in their craft. After all, they need to know whether or not their work is actually being received well by others.

However, there comes a point where every chef must set feedback aside and let vision take form. There comes a point where a chef needs to stop worrying about over-salting their dish. A chef needs to be confident and bold about the experience they’re trying create.

It’s a balancing art, that’s for sure. It won’t do well for a chef to block themselves off to the outside and assume everything they make is gold. But they’ll also never thrive if they don’t experiment and follow their heart either!
