Overnight Oats: a Simple, Make-Ahead Breakfast

Do you dread having to wake up and prepare breakfast for you and your family? The last thing you want to be bothered with in the morning is prepping meals and these overnight oats can be made ahead of time and they’ll stay fresh in the fridge for up to five days. You don’t have to rely on cereal again for a quick, tasty breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup muesli or 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats + 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter or peanut butter
  • 1/2-2/3 cup milk (based on the consistency you want)
  • 1/2 cup fruit
  • drizzle of maple syrup or honey

Instructions:

  1. Combine the muesli or old-fashioned oats and cinnamon with chia seeds and nut butter in a jar or bowl.
  2. Add a splash of milk and mix them all together. Then add the rest of the milk and mix.
  3. Top with the fruit of your choice. If you’re using fruit that doesn’t store well, like sliced bananas or apples, wait to top your oats until you’re ready to eat it.
  4. Place the lid on the jar and refrigerate overnight or up to five days. Before you serve, add a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.
