Not a Crust Fan? Papa Johns Has You Covered With Its New Pizza Bowls

What makes a pizza a pizza? Is it the topping? The cheese? The crust? Well, Papa Johns is challenging our perceptions about the classic Italian dish.

The American pizza chain has an option on its menu for a pizza without a crust. Deemed Papa Bowls, they involve pizza toppings baked together and served in a bowl, thus ending the debate whether crust should be thick or thin.

“We are very excited to offer Papa Bowls as a new menu category and as a new way consumers can experience our premium ingredients,” said Papa Johns Senior Vice President of Menu Strategy and Product Innovation, Scott Rodriguez.

“Our signature crust continues to be a beloved favorite, but we know that sometimes customers crave something different. We want them to know we are committed to delivering on all of those cravings through our menu.”

The bowls are also ideal for those who may be gluten-intolerant or are following a low-carb diet. And if sushi can come in a bowl, why can’t pizza?

At present, Papa Johns offers three versions of its new addition. Those craving something meaty will likely opt for the Italian Meats Trio which features signature pizza and alfredo sauces, meatballs, pepperoni, sausage, three cheeses, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. While chicken lovers can enjoy the Chicken Alfredo Papa Bowl that includes grilled chicken, alfredo and garlic parmesan sauce, spinach, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes, with a three cheese blend. Vegetarians are not forgotten as the Garden Veggie bowl has banana peppers, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, and spinach, with pizza sauce, garlic parmesan, and three cheeses.
