Ethiopian Tomato Sauce

Ethopian cuisine is spicy and flavorful, just like this basic tomato sauce. You can eat it with flatbread as it’s traditionally done, or use it as a base for lentils, chickpeas, or whatever else you’d like! Making it is the same as you would Italian tomato sauce, but the key to this sauce is the spice blend native to Ethiopia called berbere.  You can usually find this in the grocery store, but if you can’t, you can make it yourself at home with chili peppers, garlic, ginger, basil, korarima, rue, ajwain, nigella, and fenugreek.
