It appears that leafy greens start to spoil as soon as we get home from the grocery store. If they are not turned into a salad right there and then, chances are that you will later find them half-wilted.

Luckily, there is a simple trick you can use to keep leafy greens fresher longer and that will stop them from turning bad on you. And the thing you need to pull it off is probably already lying on your kitchen counter.

Paper Towel Trick

This trick works for all sorts of leafy greens, no matter whether they are packed in a plastic bag or bought fresh.

If you have some bagged greens, then simply open the bag and place a paper towel inside the bag. Close it and store it inside the fridge. The paper towel will absorb the excess moisture and help leafy greens to keep their freshness. Check out the demonstration below.

If you’ve bought fresh greens, the trick is basically the same but has a different execution. Take a plastic container and line it with paper towels. Then add a layer of greens before topping it with more paper towels. Repeat the process until you run out of greens. Store the container in the refrigerator. You’ll be surprised when you see that your leafy greens still fresh several days later.
