When it comes to vegetables most of us just throw them in the refrigerator and try to eat them before they go bad. However, there are ways to store your vegetables to help them last longer and they don’t take up much of your time.

Choose Good Quality Produce

When you are at the farmers market or grocery store make sure to choose produce that isn’t wilted or shriveled. Try to choose unripened avocados and bananas and very fresh leafy greens.

Do Not Pre-Wash Your Vegetables

There are only two vegetables that need to be stored in water in the refrigerator: leeks and asparagus, the rest do not need to be pre-washed before storing. The moisture from the water could lead to the foods going bad quicker.

Keep Herbs in a Dampened Paper Towel

The best way to keep herbs fresh is to dampen a paper towel roll the bundle of herbs inside and put them in a plastic resealable bag. When you are ready to use them wash them thoroughly.

Keep Ripened Fruits Away From Other Fruits

Some fruits, when bruised release a gas that can make other fruits and vegetables around them ripen quicker and go bad. Once a fruit or vegetable is bruised or ripe keep it away from others.
