Store-bought pancake mix is great when you want some pancakes for breakfast but don’t have enough time to make the pancake batter from scratch. Unfortunately, pancakes made this way always seem to taste a bit off. Luckily, there are several ways you can improve store-bought pancake mix and give your pancakes a proper homemade feel.

Sift the Pancake Mix

Sifting the pancake mix might seem unnecessary, but it will do wonders for your pancakes. It will aerate the mix and break up the small clumps, making the pancakes.

Use Buttermilk

Buttermilk should come in front of any other liquid that the instructions on the store-bought pancake mix ask for. With its creaminess and acidic content, buttermilk gives the pancake a soft texture while allowing it to be structurally sound.

Add Eggs

If your store-bought pancake mix doesn’t require eggs, you should still add them. Egg yolk introduces more flavor due to fat, while the egg white makes pancakes fluffier.

Add Vanilla Extract or Cinnamon

More often than not, store-bought pancake mix can lead to bland pancakes. Sure, you can always top them with maple syrup to fix this. But a better choice is to add a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a dash of ground cinnamon for an added flavor kick.
