Got Leftover Wine? Here’s How to Keep it Fresh for Longer

We’ve all been there—we opened up a bottle of wine and drank a few glasses and been left with the leftovers. We’re then left with the following question: do we throw the rest of the wine away or try and keep it for next time? Luckily, there are ways to keep the wine fresh, which means you don’t have to waste a good bottle of wine! Here are five ways to keep your bottle fresher for longer.

Re-Cork Wine

If you know you won’t be finishing the bottle, re-cork it right away. This limits the amount of oxygen that’s in contact with your wine, keeping it fresher for longer.

Keep the Wine Upright

Avoid storing your wine sideways. Storing it upright minimizes the surface area that’s exposed to oxygen and slows down the oxidation process.

Get Half-Sized Bottles

Keep some empty half-sized bottles around so when you can’t finish half of a bottle of wine, you can store it in half-sized bottles. These bottles reduce the amount of oxygen that gets stored in your wine.

Keep the Wine Cold and Dark

Keep your open bottle of wine out of light and store them in the refrigerator. This slows down the wine oxidation since the molecules are moving more slowly.

Get a Wine Preserver

Invest in either a vacuum pump or an inert gas preservation system. A vacuum pump removes excess gas from the bottle once it’s been opened. An inert gas preservation system serves wine without opening the bottle by injecting gas that’s denser than air and puts a cap of wine-friendly gas on top of your wine.
