Girl Scout cookies are something every household should have in their pantry. They are nostalgic and tasty, coming in all sorts of varieties to court everyone’s preferences. However, stocking up on Girl Scout cookies is about to become more expensive.

The Girl Scouts of the USA recently confirmed that the prices of their cookies will go up by $1 per box. Most Girl Scout cookie flavors have been priced at $5 in previous years, meaning that you can expect to pay $6 moving forward. According to the organization, the decision was made due to an increase in the price of ingredients and manufacturing costs.

It is important to note that the new pricing has already taken place. New flavors like Toffee-tastic are already priced at $6 per box. Also, some councils have been selling their cookies at this price for a while now.

The Girl Scout cookies originally cost around 25 cents when they were first introduced. The last price hike was initiated in 2015 when they went up from $4 to $5 per box.

“Each of our 111 Girl Scout councils sets local Girl Scout Cookie prices based on several factors,” a spokesperson for Girl Scouts of the USA said in an email sent to CBS MoneyWatch. “In some instances, councils are faced with the tough decision to raise the prices, though prices have remained steady in many areas for a number of years.”
