The holiday season brings with it a timeless tradition–rich and creamy eggnog. This classic is even better homemade. Here’s an easy recipe to make your no-hassle festive cup of eggnog at home.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Optional: 1/4 cup bourbon or brandy for an adult version

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat the mixture on medium-low heat, stirring until it reaches a gentle simmer. Avoid boiling the mixture.
  3. Slowly pour a small amount of the warm milk mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously. Gradually add the remaining milk mixture to the egg yolks, whisking constantly to combine.
  4. Return the combined mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of cinnamon. Add the liquor at this stage if you’d like.
  5. Transfer the eggnog mixture to a heatproof bowl and let it cool. Chill for 2-4 in the refrigerator. Garnish and enjoy!
