Cooking is a process of much trial and error. But the good thing is that you don’t have to make the error yourself to learn from it. So why not avoid the mistakes and just learn from the experience of other home cooks before you? Here are some things to avoid doing in the kitchen.

Not Practicing a Recipe

If you cook for other people like family members or guests, you probably want to try out fun, new recipes for them. But if you do, make sure that you give it a practice run first. You never want the first time that you cook a recipe to be for company.

Opening the Oven

We know, cooking requires a lot of patience that we sometimes don’t have. But while watching your water waiting for it to a boil may not actually slow down the process, opening the oven door to check on your food actually will interfere with the oven temperature. So either use an oven light or just be patient and wait.

Adding Garlic Too Early

A lot of people will put their onion and garlic in to sautee together, but that’s a big mistake. Garlic cooks much quicker than onion, which means that by the time the onions are soft, the garlic will probably burn. Instead, wait to add it until the onions have about a minute left to cook.
