Cutting Down on Sugar? Try These Snacks

Most of us struggle to resist candy, chocolate and sweets, even though we know it’s bad for our health. Sometimes a candy pick-me-up is the only thing that will work, but at other points, you may just need a boost of energy to focus. Check out these low-sugar, natural snacks, which will help you focus and keep you full.

Lime And Chilli Cashews

Ingredients (to make four snack portions):

  • 1 cup of cashews
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • Zest one lime
  • 1 teaspoon of chilli flakes
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil over a medium heat in a pan.
  2. Add the zest of the lime, the chilli flakes and the salt.
  3. Add the cashews, and stir continuously so the nuts are coated well.
  4. After about 5 minutes – or when the nuts start to brown – remove from the heat.
  5. Store in an airtight container for up to three weeks.

Banana Oat Smoothie

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup of oats
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds

Instructions:

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blitz until smooth.

Cheese And Chutney Slice

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 1 slice of cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of chutney
  • 1 slice of bread

Instructions:

  1. Spread the chutney over the bread.
  2. Place the slice of cheese in the middle and fold the bread over to form a sandwich.
