There’s a common theme with a lot of consumer food that seem to promote health and nutrition, while secretly pumping their products with sugar and countless other unhealthy things. This is the case with countless products of the modern age, but right now we want to talk about cereal. There are definitely a lot of cereals out there that are just as healthy as they say, but here are some tips for not getting tricked into buying something not so healthy.

Don’t Get Swayed By Healthy Brands

Takes Cheerios for example. Regular Cheerios on their own are actually pretty healthy—but this is why it’s so easy to get tricked into buying varieties of Cheerios that are less so. Whether it’s Frosted Cheerios, Cinnamon Cheerios, Maple Cheerios (they’ve truly got everything these days), or any of their other kinds, we highly recommend checking the nutrition facts before buying them. What you’ll find is that they’re not much healthier than cereals you already consider to be unhealthy. It was just the Cheerios brand name that convinced you otherwise.

Boring Cereals are Usually Healthier

The cold, hard truth is that the more boring the cereal is, the healthier it usually is. If a cereal brand is trying to get your attention with some wacky new flavor, there’s a good chance it’s loaded with sugar.
