If you’re still nursing a hangover from New Years, you might be pleased to know that another celebration is about to get underway! On January 22 this year, Asian communities around the world will celebrate the Lunar New Year 2023. Here are some dishes to honor the occasion.

Dumplings

As a staple in Asian cuisine, Lunar New Year would not be complete without dumplings. Fill them with combinations of prawn, chicken, pork, mushrooms, scallions, ginger, and garlic. Dumplings also symbolize longevity and wealth which are wonderful sentiments to take into the next lunar cycle.

Longevity Noodles

The name speaks for itself as far as longevity noodles are concerned. In Chinese these are called Yi Mein. Featuring crunchy snow peas, water chestnuts, and shiitake mushrooms, these umami noodles are also said to bring you luck and prosperity.

Mochi

These little rice cakes are a traditional treat in Japan at new year. During the Heian period, nobles of the Imperial court believed that long strands of freshly made mochi symbolized long life and well-being. The sweet treats can be flavoured with everything from matcha to chocolate.
