You Don’t Need a Blender to Make a Soup!

A staple of winter cooking is blended soup. Think tomato soup, split-pea soup, and butternut squash soup. They’re so creamy, delicious, warming, and satisfying, so it makes perfect sense that you’d want to make one. But what do you do if you don’t have the immersion blender or regular blender that’s required to make it?

Well, the truth is that a blended soup is supposed to be blended, after all, and there aren’t really any results you can get without one that will have the exact same texture. But if you’re willing to be a little flexible with your expectations, you can still get something just as yummy without a blender.

All it requires is cooking your vegetables until they are so soft they are nearly broken down. Then you can use a potato masher to get them broken up into the smallest possible texture. It might take some time and arm strength, but eventually, you can get your soup to be pretty dang close to the “real thing.”

Another pro tip: add something creamy like cream or coconut milk at this stage can make a big difference in helping you achieve as close to the desired texture as you can.
