Frying cucumbers or even cooking them, for that matter, might sound like an outrageous idea to some people. After all, this veggie is best when eaten fresh, and tampering with it too much can only make things worse. Unless you stir fry them, of course.

YouTube channel Happy Fil Cooking has a great video that shows that cucumbers can be turned into a great cooked dish if you make it the right way. Their recipe is a variation of “oi bokkeum,” which is a popular South Korean side dish made of stir-fried cucumbers.

How to Make Stir Fry Cucumbers

The first thing you’ll need is some cucumbers. Cut their edges off and then slice them in quarters lengthwise. Cut the quarters to the preferred length and remove the seeds. You should sprinkle them with salt and let them sit for half an hour in a bowl. After that, drain the water, and the cucumbers are ready to be stir-fried.

Heat some butter in a wok pan on medium heat and add six cloves of minced garlic. Wait until the garlic gets brown before introducing the cucumbers. Stir the cucumbers to absorb the butter and garlic before seasoning them with black pepper, dried oregano, and seasoning powder. Stir fry for around two minutes before removing from heat. Garnish with chili flakes, sesame seeds, or some grated cheese.
