Coffee makers are a staple in every kitchen, and yet they’re the most neglected when it comes to cleaning. Most people only replace the paper filter and rinse the container, but when was the last time you scrubbed your coffee maker with bleach? Here’s a simple way to get rid of the gunk and residue buildup using bleach.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon bleach
  • 1 gallon of water for the bleach solution
  • 4 gallons of clean hot water

Instructions

  1. Mix the bleach and water (1 tablespoon bleach with 1 gallon of water for the bleach solution).
  2. Put a filter paper in the coffee maker
  3. Pour the mixture of the bleach and water into the machine. Add some hot water to it as well.
  4. Turn on the coffee maker and unplug it after about 8-10 minutes. Then rinse the machine with cold water several times until the bleach is washed off completely.

Precautions

  1. Avoid running the bleach directly into your coffee machine.
  2. Do not let the solution sit in the machine for too long. Wait until it’s cold before rinsing.
  3. Run clean cold water through the machine at least five times to remove all the traces of bleach.
  4. Let the machine properly air dry before the next use.
