Eating too much food occasionally is not something you should be worried about, but if this turns into a habit, it can become a serious problem. The only way to get rid of this habit and to stop overeating is to understand why we do that. Here are some of the most common reasons why we tend to overeat.

Emotional Eating

Some people tend to reach for comfort foods when they feel angry, sad, stressed, or even when they’re happy. The problem is we’re often not aware of the fact we’re coping with all these emotions by overeating. In case you do notice this unhealthy habit, try exercising, listening to music, or reading a book instead.

Portion Size

Increased portion sizes are linked to overeating more than we realize because most people have the habit of eating everything on their plate.

Skipping Meals

Don’t think you’re cutting calories when skipping a meal, because those who do this tend to compensate by overeating later.

Eating Too Quickly

Our brain needs around 20 minutes to realize we’re full, so if you’re eating faster, chances are you’ll eat more than you need.
