Having a can of food without a can opener might seem like a nightmare scenario. You have the food, but you have no way to get to it. But it doesn’t have to be that way. While it will require a bit more effort from your side, there are several efficient ways to open a can of food without a can opener. Check them out.

With a Spoon

Spoons are by far the best tool for opening cans. Grab a spoon firmly and start rubbing it on the top of the can where the lid connects with the edge while pressing down. Soon enough, you will poke a hole in the can. Then continue working your way around until you loosen up the lid so it can be folded back.

With Chef’s Knife

This is a bit riskier method, so you must be careful. Lean the bottom tip of the knife on the edge of the lid and press firmly to poke a hole. Continue doing so until the lid becomes loose. Then simply slide the knife’s blade below the lid and lift it.

With Any Other Hard Object

The good news is that you can open a can of food even if you don’t have a spoon or chef’s knife around. Any other hard object will do, including a rock. Just use the same principle of rubbing it against the lid until you have pierced a hole.
