Keeping your freezer well-stocked with meat is a smart move. That way you know you’ll always have it when you need it most, like that dinner party you have next week. There’s just one problem… you know that you’re going to have to get that meat defrosted in time. Otherwise, it’s all over. Here are some of the safest and most efficient ways to defrost meat.

Overnight in the Refridgerator

The best way to defrost any kind of meat is to leave it overnight in the fridge. This gives it time to thaw out gently at its own pace. Once it’s defrosted, red meat can last about three to five days. White meats and seafoods will last more like one to two days.

Microwave

Pop your frozen meat in the microwave and heat on the defrost setting for about 10 minutes. Make sure the heat setting is not too high. Start cooking immediately once thawed.

Cold Water

Pop your frozen meat into a sealable plastic bag. Fill a large bowl with cold water and submerge your frozen meat into it. The meat will start to defrost, but this can take anywhere from one to three hours.

Cook Frozen

If you’re really tight on time, you can actually cook both red and white meat without thawing it. It will take longer to cook, but you can avoid those long hours waiting for it to defrost.
