Restaurant meals are so delicious and hard to resist, and yet we often hear that eating in restaurants too often is not that healthy. That’s because every chef has a few tricks and secret ingredients that make those meals so tasty, but also unhealthy.

Here are a few common ingredients that make restaurant meals unhealthy.

Butter

Every classy restaurant is using tons of butter to make their meals more flavorful—they put it on the meat, in soups and sauces, sometimes even on salads. This is the easiest way to make any meal taste better, and butter is certainly a healthier option than oil, which they use in cheaper restaurants.

Excess Sugar

We can afford to order a cake or pancakes in a restaurant every once in a while, but what about those tasty salads or delicious creamy soups? You wouldn’t expect them to add sweeteners in savory dishes too, but they do, and that’s why they taste so good.

Excess Salt

We know that salt is not healthy, but it’s also essential for cooking. Restaurant chefs, however, use way too much salt, much more than we use when we cook at home. Salt is used not only for savory dishes, but for sweets and salads as well.
