Anchovies are having a moment and we are here for it! These salty little fish pack an impressive umami punch and should be a pantry essential for any omnivore. Of course, they’re delicious on pizza, but here are three alternative uses for anchovies that will awaken your taste buds!

Buy the best anchovies you can afford, ideally packed in extra virgin olive oil. The high quality of the fish and the oil will really shine through.

Pasta Sauces

Because of the way oil-packed anchovies are processed, they are super dissolvable. These means they can be rendered down into sauces, without any trace of bones or scales. Anchovies are the perfect addition to any robust pasta dishes that use tomato, lemon, garlic or greens.

Salad Dressing

Caesar salad would be nothing without anchovies. They add a savory depth that really brings the fresh, crisp lettuce to life. Chopped anchovies or anchovy paste can be added to classic creamy Caesar dressing, as well as lemony or mustardy vinaigrettes.

Anchovy Butter

Butter is also having a moment so why not combine these two trending ingredients? Mix softened butter with chopped anchovies, lemon zest, garlic and herbs for an intensely flavorful butter that is delicious on bread, over steamed veggies or melted onto steak!
