Many cooking enthusiasts can’t imagine a single culinary adventure without parchment paper. This heat-resistant, nonstick paper is often used to line baking sheets and pans, thus preventing sticking and browning, but there are a couple of effective substitutes you can use in its place.

Aluminum Foil

Aluminum foil is one of the most effective replacements for parchment paper, especially when you’re baking crisp foods. It’s great at withstanding high temperatures, but it’s a good idea to grease the top of the foil to prevent the food from sticking during the baking process.

Cooking Spray

Nonstick cooking or baking spray is another great option if you’re out of parchment paper. You can use it to coat your cookie sheet or pan to prevent sticking before placing the food inside. Some people just grease the pan with butter or oil to accomplish the same result, but this should be your last resort.

Silicone Mats

Silicone baking mats and pads are a great investment because they can tolerate high temperatures. You can use them time and time again, and everything you bake will come right off without being greased. Add them to your kitchen collection, and you won’t have to worry about running out of parchment paper ever again.
