Pickles are one of those food items that are always good to have around. They can be a great savory snack by themselves or be used to give your sandwich a major flavor boost. You probably already know all about this, but did you know that pickles are surprisingly simple to make at home? All you need is clean jars, fresh cucumbers, and few other ingredients that are probably already sitting in your pantry. So let’s get to it.

Ingredients

  • 3 lb cucumbers
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 ½ cups vinegar
  • ½ cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons mustard seed
  • 4 teaspoons dried dill
  • 2 teaspoons coriander

 Instructions

1. Wash the cucumbers.

2. Place the cucumbers in the jars. You can put them in whole if they are smaller or cut them to slices or strips.

3. Combine the rest of the ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil. Leave on the stove until the sugar and salt are completely dissolved.

4. While the liquid is still hot, pour it into the jars with cucumbers until they are completely submerged. Immediately close the lid and leave them on the counter to chill before storing them in the fridge.

5. You can eat the pickles after a couple of hours, but the more you wait, the better flavor will be.

6. Homemade pickles will last up to three weeks in the fridge.
