Let’s Get Acquainted With Tofu!

Tofu is delicious, full of protein, satisfying, and cheap. It’s one of the best-known products in the world, and yet we find ourselves skipping it in the supermarket or we’re afraid to use it in everyday cooking. Whether it’s due to a bad experience with this white lump, the thought that it’s bland and has no strong taste, or the difficulty in processing it, it’s time to become friends with tofu.

There are a couple of different types of tofu, and each one is slightly different. You can find firm tofu, soft tofu, delicate and creamy tofu called silk tofu, peanut tofu, fried tofu, smoked tofu, and even chickpea tofu! Do some research before you go to the supermarket and see what your needs are, and what you should use.

Give it a try. Practice makes perfect. Play with different types of tofu in different recipes, find the textures and flavors you like, and try to replicate the successes in other recipes.

Understand the raw material and work with it. Tofu is great if you know how to use it. See if the type of tofu you have chosen requires absorption of the liquids first or some pre-processing.
